Very Important Businessmen - Coma

So, I suppose one of the biggest things that happens to hardcore punk bands is a transition into metal. In some cases, it becomes a complete joke and the band turns into a shell of their former selves to the point that it's laughable. This is not one of those cases. Very Important Businessmen's new LP, 'Coma', is a fast, brutal blend of hardcore punk, thrash metal, and hard rock that is so well-played that it's mind blowing. The opening track, "Übermench" is a 30-second track of pure aggression, V.I.B. style with some metal leanings that brings you into a 13 track thrash onslaught sure to make your blood boil. The next 2 tracks are classic V.I.B. tracks, bringing out their best qualities. They sound like any of their songs should and could fit in perfectly with the previous EP, 'Fucked Over' - but then comes the track 'Painkiller'. This song is fucking brutal. It's fast, aggressive, and has more metal leanings than most of their other stuff. Towards the ending it becomes really heavy and I'm sure is a pit favorite for the kids. This song stands out among the rest of them (though the rest are incredibly done). The rest of the record keeps solid and doesn't disappoint. The song "I Fuck Fire" is pretty great, and they did a cover of Pachelbel's Canon which is pretty funny. Alex's vocals rip harder on this record and the guitar parts are much more complex yet still raw and hard. This album is perfect for their style, and I'd say it gets a sure 10/10. I highly recommend checking it out as soon as you get the chance because this band is going strong and I don't see them stopping any time soon.
